Higham and Rushden

Settlements Group

Group A meets on the fourth Tuesday each month from 2 until 3.30pm in the Vestry Hall, St Mary's Church, Rushden. Group B has now disbanded.

The aim of the group is to get to know the surrounding area from a geographical, geological, historical and social point of view. We usually have 7 indoor meetings followed by 4 site visits in the summer months. Volunteer members of the group lead sessions about villages they know well or are interested in.
The group has a waiting list at present. We limit numbers so that visits to small places are more manageable and do not impact on local residents for example with car parking. When we make visits we always try to support any local café by having refreshments before we leave.
You do not need to have any qualifications other than an inquisitive mind and a love of the area we live in. Hopefully even people who hated geography at school will find it is not so bad after all! We try to avoid talking just about the history of a place but include what the village is like today and what there is available for today's inhabitants.
We do not meet in December.

You can get in touch with the group leader via the Contact page.
